Another New Year
It seems that everyone looks at a new year like some magical day where everything will be different. Somehow at midnight on December 31st, something mystical happens that makes January 1st a magical day where everything changes and people get fresh starts. I sure wish it worked this way. It doesn’t. 2012 will not be any different than 2011 if we don’t change the way that we think! Our thinking is what changes us, not a new day or a new year.
Many people will change for a time but seem to fall back into old habits because they don’t change the way they think about their situations. If you feel that you have to do something you will come up with all kinds of creative ways to not do what you don’t want to do. However, if you change your thinking to a want to attitude, then you can change because we will find ways to do what we want to do. By the way, this is actually repentance: to change your thinking in order to change your actions.
The older I get the more I realize that New Years Day is really just another day. As I stated earlier, it’s not a magical day. I have come to the realization that all I have is now. I don’t really have a new year or even a new tomorrow. Because tomorrow never comes!!! It is always today. As a matter of fact, it’s always now. So all I have is now. I must appreciate the moment that I am in. Even if I have a bad day or a bad moment, it’s just a moment in my life. I have right now to enjoy and live to the fullest. So instead of Happy New Year, I choose to look at it this way: Happy New Moment. The way that I choose to live my moments is how my 2012 will turn out.
Happy New Year and happy New Moment! Enjoy the journey!
