Grace upon Grace, Gift upon Gift
For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. (John 1:16)
The word grace in the New Testament can also mean gift. Which is fitting considering that grace is a gift. You cannot earn grace; you can only receive it.
God is a good and kind Father who is rich with His mercy and kindness. He bestows gifts upon humanity freely and generously.
The above passage is a wonderful promise that declares that out of the fullness of Jesus we receive grace upon grace. One translation of the Bible declares that we live off His generous bounty, gift after gift (MSG). It’s the idea that we draw our life from Jesus. Everything we need is in Jesus.
The wonderful news is that He never runs out of grace.
He never runs out of mercy.
He never runs out of kindness.
He is rich in it (Eph. 2:4).
Whatever grace gift you need from Jesus today you can receive it. You are not limited to just a small aspect of Jesus. Notice that the scripture says, “of His fullness we have all received.”
The lie of the serpent in the Garden of Eden was that God was holding back from humanity. Jesus came to show us that God is not holding back from humanity. He has come in all His fullness to help up to live in His grace. Grace upon grace, gift upon gift. In Jesus, we have all that we need!
Whatever you need, ask Jesus for it. Believe that He will provide for you. Ask Jesus to help you receive His fullness and live out of that fullness. He is not desiring to hold back from you.
Grace upon grace out of the fullness of Christ…..what a promise!
