The Spiritual Poverty Line
Jesus said in John 10:10 that He came that people might have life and have it more abundantly. As I think about my life and the lives of those that I lead and am in contact with, I find many of us are simply not satisified with where our lives are at. For me personally, I know that there is more that I am capable of, yet I don’t seem to capture my fullest potential. Some days I feel that I have life by merely existing, but I don’t have an abundant life. A life that overflows in all areas.
When someone is impoverised in any area of their life, they don’t have anything to give to others. They are hanging onto every area of life (existence) that they have. They don’t have an abundance to give out of. It’s the same way with us spiritually. If we are merely existing we have life but Jesus said that He came that we might have an abundant life. What does that look like?
Well for me that means that I have an abundance of love, joy and peace. These are the things that make up life. Many of us look to worldly possessions and material things as life, but they are not. We cannot live without love. We cannot function properly without joy. We cannot live effective lives without inner peace. We should have an abundance of these things. This is what Jesus came to give us.
When we live below having an abundance of these things then we are spiritually impoverished and we cannot give anything to others. I want to be able to give out of my overflow (abundance). I want to live in all that God has for me. I don’t want to be disastified with life and live with regrets of what could have been. I want to live on the cutting edge of life.
So, what you do you think?
